Prolific Mount Pleasant Academy striker Kemar 'Bushy' Beckford has set his sights on scoring 18 goals in this year's shortened Jamaica Premier League (JPL) competition.

The JPL which is the country's top football competition is set to return on Saturday after a 14-month break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In fact, when the 2019-2020 season was ruled null and void by the Jamaica Football Federation in May of last year, Beckford was the leading scorer in the league with 14 goals.

Beckford told STAR Sports that he has been working assiduously in training to improve on his finishing in front because he is very determined to cop this year's Golden Boot award.

"I think that I have to work a lot harder this season because the competition is very short and so I will have to treat every game like a final.

Do my best to score

"My aim is to get 18 goals and so I am going to do my best to score at least two goals in every game that I play in this season because as a striker you always want to score as many goals as possible in a season," he said.

The 29-year-old Beckford added that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the players have remained confident and are very determined to give an excellent showing in this season's competition.

He also pointed out that members of the Mount Pleasant Academy coaching staff have done their best to keep the team mentally ready and focused for the competition.

"The team has been working very hard and players are very focused because our aim to win the league this season," said Beckford.

"The coaching staff have been doing their best and we have not lost any players, so we are feeling confident about ourselves going into the start of the league," he said.
