No one is prouder of Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw's achievements than her mother, Monica Shaw, who says she admires her resilience and her determination to succeed at the highest level in women's football.

Khadija Shaw recently signed a three-year contract with top English club Manchester City after a very successful season in this year's Feminine Division One, France's top-flight women's league, where she won the Golden Boot award after topping the goal-scoring chart with 22 goals for Bordeaux.

The 24-year-old Shaw finished one goal ahead of Marie-Antoinette Katoto in this year's league Champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG).

The player's mother told STAR Sports that she is not surprised about her daughter's achievements because she has watched her development from a tender age and therefore she knew that her daughter was going to be a great footballer.

"I feel great knowing that she has reached the highest level in football," said Mrs Shaw. "Since she was six years old a woman predicted that she was going to be a good footballer and it is amazing now to know that she is going to England to play for Manchester City. She wanted to go to this club a long time ago," she said.

"It is not just the community but all of Jamaica supports and loves her and so everyone is excited and happy for her," Mrs Shaw said

She added that Shaw was a huge lover of football growing up in her community of Crescent district in Catherine because she would always go out to play against the boys at any given time.

"She had a lot of energy and played different games but most definitely she has loved football from she was six," said Mrs Shaw. "When she played for Bordeaux, I was very proud because I watched her every Saturday (on the Internet) and I know she is really good."

Despite her daughter's achievements, Mrs Shaw noted that she remains very humble and has been has been giving back to the youth in her community.

"She always puts on football tournaments and so she gives back to the community. I know that a lot of the youths in the community look up to her and they want to be like her," Mrs Shaw said.
