Rudolph Speid, sporting director of Cavalier SC, has described J. Wray & Nephew's sponsorship of his club as a great fit as they stand to receive a lot more exposure and traction from the partnership.J. Wray and Nephew, through its brand Kingston 62 Rum, handed over gift baskets to members of Cavalier's team during a press conference, which was held at the Jamaica Football Federation's head office in New Kingston yesterday.

Dwayne Atkinson, who was voted the Jamaica Premier League's (JPL) player of the first round last week, received a cheque valued at $62,000 from Kamal Powell, J Wray and Nephew Limited's regional marketing manager for the Caribbean.

Spied said his club is delighted for the sponsorship and they are looking forward to a great and sustainable partnership with the company.

"It means a lot to us because they are a big brand and so with the popularity that they have, combined with our popularity, will make our club even better," said Speid.

Cavalier are the youngest team in this season's JPL with an average age of 21 years. However, Speid noted that he is very confident that they will give a good account of themselves this season.

"We are expecting great things from the players because if you notice, we have prepared properly this season even within the short space of time," said Speid. "We have some really good exciting talent and players who can compete with the best the league has to offer now and we hope that we can just get everything together."

Powell stated that Cavalier has proven over the past few years that they are among the top football clubs in Jamaica and, therefore, J. Wray and Nephew are very happy to be partnering with the JPL club.

"Cavalier was formed in 1962 (the year Jamaica gained Independence) and Kingston 62 is a brand that was also created with that in mind, that it is capital city of Jamaica, and it speaks to the Independence of 1962, so we were quite pleased when we were selected to be a part of this partnership," said Powell.
