No-movement days, no problem for Waterhouse
While all the Jamaica Premier League teams had to deal with the challenges that the no-movement days presented, Waterhouse assistant coach Damion Gordon has praised the dedication of his team to commit to their remote workouts as they inch closer towards the play-offs.
Waterhouse will play already eliminated Molynes United today at 10 a.m at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence as part of a triple header. All three matches have play-off implications. Waterhouse defeated Arnett Gardens 4-1 last week to move into third place with 13 points, with a better goal difference than Portmore United, Tivoli Gardens and Dunbeholden.
Like the majority of the teams last week, Waterhouse resorted to online fitness work with the no-movement days restricting their regular training. Gordon said that he has been pleased with the level of dedication the players have shown in ensuring that they were disciplined to follow the regiment.
Teamwork
"We have a unit that is willing to work. We have a lot of zoom sessions so that helps. We were able to keep our physical condition. So it's about the teamwork and it's about the willingness of the players to just do the work," Gordon said.
Waterhouse are used to working remotely before. When 2019/20 was initially postponed in March 2020 and while the fate of the season was being determined, they did do online work to keep themselves fit in the hope they would be able to finish the season. Gordon says that the main difference now, compared to then, is that they had the luxury of matches under their belt which made things easier to adapt to when they returned to full practice midweek.
A win against Molynes United would put them on the verge of securing their place in the play-offs. Meanwhile, in the other games of the triple header, Cavalier will face reigning champions Portmore United at 1 p.m and Mount Pleasant will take on Vere United at 3:30 p.m.
