Defending champions Clarendon College booked their spot in the second round of the ISSA-daCosta Cup football competition with a 1-0 win over Glenmuir High at Foga Road, yesterday.

Lenworth 'Lenny' Hyde, the coach of Clarendon, said he was impressed by the way his players performed yesterday adding that the chemistry in the team is coming together at the right time.

"Yes, we are excited because that (getting to the second round) was the aim," Hyde said. "We played really well as a team today. We got a clean sheet which is what we need to be doing going forward. With each game our team is getting that chemistry and looking better. We are improving and that is what we want from the players."

Finishing the first round atop the Zone E standing see them enter Group 4 of the second round. They are set for exciting clashes such as the battle of the 'CCs' against Cornwall College (Zone A runners-up), Zone D winners Manchester High and Zone H runners-up McGrath High.

Hyde said that now that they have achieved their first objective they just have to carry the momentum into the next round.

"We have a couple of days to prepare for it and we just have to go back and prepare the team to get another good result. We are not going to take any team in the group lightly. We want to go out and play good football. I just want them to go out there and enjoy the moment," Hyde said.

"We have put ourselves in this position so now it is just to go out there and express themselves on the field. The aim is to defend our title to the best of our ability," he added.

In another game played yesterday, Edwin Allen High secured the second spot in Zone E with a convincing 3-0 win over Lennon High at Glenmuir. They are in Group One with Zone A winners William Knibb High, Dinthill Technical the winners of Zone H as well as Christiana High, runners-up in Zone D.
