Reid ready to fuel Arnett’s title charge
Inching his way back to full fitness, Arnett Garden's Fabian Reid reminded the Jamaica Premier League what a dangerous goal-scoring threat he can be.
Reid scored twice in his first start for the 'Junglists' this season as they drew 2-2 with Humble Lion in their game yesterday at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence. Reid gave Arnett the lead twice, in the third and 45th minutes, although Humble Lion equalised twice through Shamari Dallas in the 10th minute and Javain Thompson in the 60th minute.
Allen says that he was determined to improve their offensive output given how much they lacked in the final third of last year's truncated campaign.
"(Last season) we positioned the ball well but they were not scoring goals. So coming back I told myself that I was going to put in some work and help the team to score some goals and try and see if we can win the league which we believe we can," Reid said.
For that to happen, Reid says that he acknowledges the important role he has to play as one of the many sources for goals this season, as he continues to improve his fitness and retain his place in the starting line-up.
"I am getting back (full fitness). If I wasn't there then they wouldn't have given me the start today. I am putting in the work because I am someone that can help the team with scoring goals and the team needs goals," he said.
Humble Lion head coach Andrew Price praised the way his team battled back twice to earn a point despite remaining winless to start this season.
"I think we showed a bit of character and we showed some resilience and we fought back and we were able to equalise. And even in the dying moments, we tried to go for it. It's a good platform that has been set and I am encouraged by it," Price said.
Meanwhile, Harbour View got their first win of the season, defeating Tivoli Gardens 2-1, thanks to free kicks from Oshane Staple (32nd minute) and Tarick Ximines (84th minute). Nakeel Martin equalised with a brilliant effort in the 47th minute for Tivoli.
Despite no goals in the run of play, Harbour View head coach Ludlow Bernard said that they are built to get goals from all phases in any situation.
"This is a team that is prepared to take goals from all available options and of course if we have good set-piece persons in the team we are definitely going to use them. Ximines and Staple are two very good kickers of the ball and it was on display today."
Tivoli head coach Philip Williams said that they were unlucky in not being able to finish the chances they created in the final third.
"Nothing much went right for us. (But) it's all a part of the game. Hopefully, in our next game we will have much better luck on our conversions," Williams said.
