Best

Cardel Benbow

Cardel Benbow didn't have a goal for the entire 2021 campaign, albeit a truncated season. But, since he has returned to Waterhouse, he has had a new lease on life and has rediscovered his goalscoring touch. He now has three goals in four games, including his brace in their 4-0 trouncing of Portmore United, maintaining his club's winning start to the season.

Cavalier

The defending champions managed to stop their two-game losing slide with a much-needed 1-0 win over Humble Lion, thanks to a Ronaldo Webster goal. Cavalier could and should have gotten more, had they managed to improve their chance conversion, but they have now vaulted themselves into fourth place in the league. With the table as tight as it is now, Cavalier have room to build and take advantage of any slip-ups undefeated Mount Pleasant and Waterhouse may have.

Mount Pleasant

The North Coast battle between Mount Pleasant and Montego Bay United went the way of the team from Drax Hall, St Ann. It was virtually over in the first half, as Mount Pleasant scored three before half-time. It is Mount Pleasant's best-ever start to a top-flight season in their four-year stay in the league, having won their first four games. Mark your calendars for February 26, as Waterhouse and Mount Pleasant will face each other in an early test for the two best teams so far this season.

Dunbeholden

Dunbeholden could not stop the Waterhouse freight train the previous week, but they rebounded last Sunday, beating Molynes United 1-0 and keeping hold of third place in the table with nine points, three away from Waterhouse and Mount Pleasant, who are first and second, respectively. For Dunbeholden, it is their best-ever start to a season, winning three of their first four, compared to seasons past where they lost two of their first four games for the previous three seasons. It is a good change if they have play-off aspirations.

Worst

Molynes United

Since earning their point against Harbour View in their season opener, nothing has gone right for Molynes United. They have lost their last three games, including a 1-0 defeat to Dunbeholden, and are at the bottom of the table. While head coach Garnett Lawrence does see his team as a work in progress, he needs to see results at some point.

Humble Lion

Humble Lion have not fared much better. They are above Molynes United with two points, but are still winless after losing to Cavalier 1-0. The upside is that they have games to make up the difference, compared to the truncated season. But wins will have to come soon, to stabilise their season. They can't have any hopes of the play-off this season if they don't start getting wins.

Montego Bay United

Montego Bay United went up against Mount Pleasant, a team in fine form, and got outclassed. They conceded three in the first half and, though they tried, couldn't get past the Mount Pleasant backline. It is a humbling lesson that they had to learn and it is the hope that they can make their improvements to get better as the season goes on. It will be interesting to see how they respond against a Tivoli team which has not played a game for nearly two weeks, as their match on Saturday was postponed.

Health protocol breach

The Tivoli Gardens - Vere United match was postponed because of health protocol compliance issues, but STAR Sports understands that it is because one of the teams did not have their members fully vaccinated. With the protocols established by the Jamaica Football Federation to get the league going, it is disappointing that the compliance was not met four games into the season.
