Bailey eager for Williams return
Tivoli Gardens Technical Director Glendon 'Admiral' Bailey says that he hopes his stint on the sidelines does not become a regular occurrence as he is eager for head coach Philip Williams to avoid further punishment by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) disciplinary committee.
Williams was issued with a two-match suspension after he was sent off during Tivoli's 1-0 defeat to Dunbeholden on February 21 but may face further sanction when he goes before a disciplinary panel tomorrow. STAR Sports understands that the incident was related to alleged disparaging comments made to the referee.
Bailey's stint in his absence produced wins over Molynes United and league leaders Mount Pleasant on Saturday, but he is hoping for a favourable outcome for Williams as he would rather return to his regular role.
"He has a disciplinary meeting, so after that, we will know the outcome if these two games are enough or if he will have to sit out a couple more," Bailey said. "But I can't wait to have him back because I can't take the sun."
Article 41.9 of the JFF Disciplinary Code says that a club official who is reported by a match official whose actions include disparaging remarks concerning referees, assistant referees, other players, or any other persons, will be suspended for at least one game and fined $5,000.
However, Bailey says that he is optimistic about Williams being able to return to his duties as he says his personality is not in line with someone having an aggressive attitude towards match officials.
"We are hoping that the chances are good, knowing that Mr Williams is not that kind of person," he said. "Sometimes our emotions get the better of us. Hopefully, they can just look at that and know that he is not that type of person."
Should Williams be cleared, his next game in charge will be against second-place Waterhouse on Saturday.
