Foster looking to bring titles to Waterhouse
For years, goalkeeper Kemar Foster has been engrained in the Portmore United environment, helping lift Jamaica Premier League (JPL) titles in the process against their rivals Waterhouse.
Having switched allegiances to the Drewsland-based club this season, Foster says that the move was necessary to push him to another level, while it was difficult to leave.
Foster, the STAR Player of the Week in week eight of the JPL, made key saves amid a Harbour View offensive onslaught to preserve the clean sheet in their 2-0 win last Saturday and to put themselves in a three-way tie on points for the top spot with Mount Pleasant and Arnett Gardens.
Foster said that he didn't make a decision on his future until the last minute, but felt that he had to make a jump to challenge himself to get to a higher level.
"To be honest, that decision was a very tough one to leave to Portmore," Foster told THE WEE KEND STAR. "Over the years, I have been performing well until now. I really achieved a lot, but sometimes you have to come out of your comfort zone to try and push to where you want to go.
"I know I'm in a position that I am not really comfortable with. But I have to make myself comfortable. I have to work hard for what I want."
What he desires is to evolve further as a shot-stopper and as the number one goalkeeper of a team that has been close on many occasions to lift the JPL title. In the Harbour View win, he managed a brilliant one-handed save from an Oshane Staple header while changing direction, helping to close any chance they had of a comeback.
"We have been working on it (the save), coming across the line, because the ball can go in any direction," he said. "I tried to stop it as best as possible, which I never expected to do in mid-air. I tried to get a strong hand to it and it was really good."
Whether his gamble of joining his title rivals will pay off is still to be determined. However, he feels that, having denied Waterhouse title success with Portmore, he can be the lucky charm that sees Waterhouse end the decadelong wait for a championship.
"I think I can get them across the line," he said. "A good coach always told me, every time you wear a club's jersey, leave the shirt better than how you found it.
"I have been at Waterhouse for a couple of months but I am enjoying myself so far. I'm really comfortable, so I am looking forward to great things."
