JPL best and worst Week 9
Best
Dunbeholden
Thanks to an impressive debut performance from striker Peter McGregor, Dunbeholden won the first St Catherine Derby of the season, beating Portmore United 3-2. It was their third win over their rivals in eight meetings. Additionally, they now have sole possession of second place in the table with 19 points, one adrift of league leaders Waterhouse. In the fight for first place, Dunbeholden is a team that no longer can be ignored, as they have entered the mix as title contenders.
Humble Lion
It took nine tries, but Humble Lion finally have gotten their reward. An Andre Clennon strike was enough for their first win of the 2021-2022 season against bottom club Montego Bay United (MBU). At this point, you have to take the wins any way you can, especially against another struggling opponent. With the win, they now extend their unbeaten run to five games and have bettered their position to ninth place with nine points. To extend that streak, they will have to beat a strong Dunbeholden team on Monday.
Worst
MBU
MBU have conceded 13 goals from their last six games, are winless in that same span, and are not showing any signs of a recovery, at least for this season. Ricky Hill's appointment as technical director was a gamble that backfired and will require a fresh approach in building a solid foundation for the future. They have to solve their immediate issues in goalscoring. They have only scored twice in six games and have been shut out in the last three.
Molynes United
Molynes United have not fared much better than MBU. They have lost their last four games, have the second-worst defence in the league so far, and are trending towards having another underwhelming season, with no play-offs. Scoring goals has been at a premium as well, as they have only found the back of the net twice in their last four games and have been shut out twice in that time span. Head coach Garnet Lawrence needs results not only to raise the morale, but for some sign that his rebuilding project is working.
