Levell happy to make history at Edwin Allen
Winning the Class One boys 100 metres final at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships (Champs) was one small step for Edwin Allen High's Bryan Levell. Now he hopes it will be one giant leap for male sprinting at his school after he became the first Edwin Allen boy to capture the Class One 100 metres at Champs.
A calm and focused Levell crossed the line in 10.25 seconds edging out Kingston College's Jeevan Newby who finished in 10.26. Herbert Morrison's De Andre Daley came third in 10.33.
Levell's focus on his race did not take away from the magnitude of the moment for Edwin Allen's boys' team captain. He said he was proud to have set the standard for male sprinting at his school.
"For Edwin Allen it's the first time a boy has won a Class One 100m final for the school so it is a great feeling (to be part of history)," Levell told STAR Sports.
He may be the first but Levell says that he hopes he is not the last, believing that the win can be the spark for other male sprint champions to emerge at Edwin Allen.
"I feel great in myself that I have created a legacy that can be followed by others coming up," Levell said.
The rest of 100m events had close finishes as well. Mark Anthony Miller of Jamaica College captured the Class Two title in a photo finish with 10.76 ahead of Gary Card of Wolmer's Boys who awarded the same time. Camperdown High's Jason Lewis came third in 10.84.
Herbert Morrison's Tavaine Stewart powered his way to victory in the Class Three final in 11.03. Nickecoy Bramwell of Calabar High was second 11.06 while Ajae Brown of Ferncourt High finished third in 11.34.
In other finals Jamaica College's Jvoughnn Blake won the Class One boys 1500m title in three minutes 56.78 seconds while Maggotty High's Yoshane Bowen captured the Class Two title in 4:12:70. In Class Three Kingston College's Nahashon Ruto won the final in 4:14:83.
In the field St Jago High's Balvin Israel defended his Class Two long jump title winning with a leap of 7.33m while the Class One crown went to Jaydon Hibbert of Kingston College with a leap of 7.87.
