Arlene Martin quits Jamaica Premier League board
Professional Football Jamaica will have a new general manager after Arlene Martin stepped down from the role.
Martin confirmed to THE WEEKEND STAR that she has stepped down from her post which she has occupied since the board's creation in November 2020. While not giving specifics regarding the reasons behind her departure, Martin said that it was her decision to step away from the role after more than a year.
She declined to comment further.
Martin presided over the return of the Jamaica Premier League last year with a shortened season being played with no spectators. Most of the games were played at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence.
Mitchell Watson, who replaces Martin, says while there may not be many opportunities for him to implement changes in this campaign, he is focused on getting all clubs to buy into the long-term vision of the organisers.
"What we want, what I need from the clubs, is to buy into what it is we are trying to achieve in terms of a professional league that has the kind of standards that you would want to see like in Major League Soccer (in the United States), in the English Premier League. That is what I want the clubs to understand," Watson said.
