City intend to keep Shaw despite PSG interest

Amid reported interest from France, Manchester City (MCFC) are adamant about their intention to keep national striker Khadija Shaw from leaving the club this summer.

Shaw, who has completed her first year in England with the club, has been reportedly linked to a move back to France, specifically to French powerhouse Paris Saint Germain (PSG) this summer. Shaw spent two years with French club Bordeaux before her move to England, finishing as the league's top scorer during the 2020/21 season, her last one with the club.

The report comes amid the departure of English midfielder Georgia Stanway to Bayern Munich and the uncertain futures of City players Lucy Bronze and Caroline Weir, who have reportedly received offers from other European clubs as well as the United States.

According to a report from French outlet RMC Sport on Sunday, Shaw is being targeted as a possible replacement for striker Marie-Antonette Katoto, who was recently named the Women's French League's best player this year and faces questions about her own long-term future. "The negotiations between PSG and Khadija Shaw are very advanced while uncertainty still hovers around the future of Katoto," the report read. However, according to Sky Sports reporter Anton Toloui, City are keen to ensure that Shaw remains at the club for next season

"MCFC intend to keep Bunny Shaw this summer despite interest from PSG. No talks between the two clubs have taken place. City plan on being active in the market this summer with moves for a couple of players close to completion," Toloui tweeted yesterday.

Shaw signed a three-year deal with the club last June and in her first season in England has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, including nine league goals en route to helping City finish in third place in the 2021/22 Women's Super League season, guaranteeing a place in next season's Women's Champions League. Shaw also won her first piece of silverware this season, defeating Chelsea to win the Continental Cup last March. However, Shaw's bid for a domestic double fell short as Chelsea won the Women's FA Cup last Sunday, beating City 3-2 in the final at Wembley.

With Shaw's club season over, attention will turn to the final round of World Cup qualifying with the Reggae Girlz. However, she will be taking instructions from a new coach as Vin Blaine resigned from his position as head coach after the players requested his removal, citing organisational and communication issues.
