Team B’s batsman Peat Salmon hooks off Team A’s pacer Oshane Thomas during his unbeaten half-century in the Jamaica Scorpions Super 50 practice match at Chedwin park yesterday. Team B won by 27 runs.

All-rounder Peat Salmon showed new head coach Andrew Richardson that he can be very handy with the bat as well as deadly with the ball, as he scored an unbeaten half-century and picked up four wickets, which helped Chadwick Walton's Team B beat Brad Barnes' Team A by 27 runs in the Jamaica Scorpions second Super 50 practice game at Chedwin Park yesterday.

The off-spinning all-rounder Salmon hit a solid 89 not out from 83 balls to first help Team B post 277 for nine in their allotted 50 overs.

The right-hander hit five fours and four sixes, as he and another all-rounder Derval Green, who made 44, added 102 runs for the ninth wicket after Team B decided to take the first strike.

The pair rescued the innings after Team B were eight wickets down for 131 runs as left-arm spinner Jeavor Royal ripped through the top and middle order by claiming four wickets for 35 runs.

Leg spinner Matthew Comrie also picked up two wickets, as captain Walton chipped in with 47 from 51 balls with four fours and three sixes.

In reply, Barnes's XI made a fist of the run chase by scoring 250 all out in 43.1 overs, with Andre McCarthy top scoring with 65 from 55 balls with four fours and four sixes. Dennis Bulli batting at No 10, made 30 from 16 balls with four sixes. Opener Leroy Lugg chipped in with 36 runs from as many balls with three sixes and a four.

The day, however, belonged to Salmon, who sent down 10 overs and bagged four wickets for 51 runs, to help seal the win. Medium pacer Green also capped off a decent outing with both bat and ball by claiming two wickets for 19 runs.

The squad is set to do ECG testing today, before three days of rest, after which the third practice match will take place at Sabina Park on Tuesday.
