Chung seeks fans’ trust in JFF

Dennis Chung is pledging to the Jamaica fans to repair the trust that has been fractured and to ensure that they see the goals of the federation are met, as he prepares to step into his new role as Jamaica Football Federation's general secretary.

Chung's appointment was ratified by the executive of JFF over the weekend and he is set to take office on November 1. Chung replaces Dalton Wint who indicated his intention to resign in June after pressure from the players following travel issues experienced during their Concacaf Nations League campaign.

Those issues drew the players' ire as they refused to play until Wint resigned, and also frustration from the fans who displayed banners during their home games in the Nations League, demanding change from the administration. Chung said that he hopes to mend the fences for their ultimate goal of a quality football product to be realised.

"I understand that there have been trust issues coming from things that quite frankly have been missing in terms of how the JFF has managed certain things and how the JFF has communicated certain things.

"From my perspective, we are going to do everything that we can to fix it. Our intentions are good. We want them to come to the matches," Chung told STAR Sports.

The matches include the upcoming international friendly series against Paraguay next month for the Reggae Girlz, who Chung said deserve the fans' backing as they prepare for next summer's World Cup.

For both national programmes, Chung said he wants equal support with the long-term goal being the elevation of the county's football product internationally.

"This is all our product. This is the product of Jamaica that we are selling and we are going to do everything within our power to ensure that our fans are satisfied," Chung said.

Chung says that he is not shying away from the difficulties that he will have to navigate and believes a key indicator of the fans' trust in the administration will be their attendance at home games.

"People will continue to criticise and I welcome that, but when I know that our fans are satisfied is when I see them coming out to the games," Chung said.
