BEST
Molynes United
After a difficult outing against Waterhouse in their season opener, the Molynes United era under head coach Alex Thomas got their first win, dispatching Humble Lion 3-2. Tyrique Wilson scored a brace, which included a rocket free kick in the 30th minute that soared into the roof of the net. It took five games last season for Molynes to get their first win. They are showing improvements, only needing two games to do so this season.
Colin Anderson
Cavalier's Colin Anderson put last week's opening defeat to Arnett Gardens behind him as he had a standout performance in their 3-0 win over Vere United. The midfielder had two goals and one assist as the 2021 champions got their first win of the season, in their quest for another title with another revamped squad of young players eager to prove themselves.
Tivoli Gardens
Tivoli had to be kicking themselves wondering how they did not get all three points against a depleted Vere United in their season opener. They ensured that the same mistakes were not repeated, defeating Chapelton Maroons 3-0. In the post-Glendon 'Admiral' Bailey era, they are off to a good start.
Montego Bay United
The first win of the season for Montego Bay United and head coach Donovan Duckie came at the expense of consistent title contenders Waterhouse, which is no easy feat. While according to Duckie they were mismatched physically, they ensured that tactically, their game plan was sound. In week two they reached the halfway point of the total wins they had last season.
WORST
Humble Lion
The Humble Lion defence had a rough outing in their 3-2 defeat to Molynes United which started in the fifth minute when a poor back pass led to them conceding a penalty that led to their first defeat of the season. While it is still early in the season it, unfortunately, keeps a concerning trend for the Clarendon-based Humble Lion, as they have gone winless in their first two games for the third straight year. The end results for those two seasons have included missing the playoffs.
Vere United
After a valiant effort which saw them earn a point in their season opener against Tivoli Gardens, Vere United this week simply could not live with the attacking threat of Cavalier's Colin Anderson. His two goals and assist performance awarded Linval Dixon his first defeat of the season as Vere United head coach. The same mentality that was used in battling for that point with 12 players available will have to be used to mount a response in their next fixture, which could give a glimpse of how they will fare this campaign.
T ropical Storm Lisa
The league had to err on the side of caution as the Monday night double-header at Stadium East was postponed because of the threat of Tropical Storm Lisa, although the weather was not the torrential rain that was promised. What it will mean is adjustments to the schedules of Harbour View, Mount Pleasant, Portmore United and Arnett Gardens who now have games in hand this early in the season.
Waterhouse
The first defeat of the season came early for Waterhouse, compared to last year when they won four straight to start the year. No need to panic, however, for the Marcel Gayle-coached Waterhouse, despite that 1-0 loss to Montego Bay United. Waterhouse usually respond well to setbacks.
