Fraziers Whip coach Xavier Gilbert is positing that they will get better as the season progresses after they came from a goal down to inflict a 6-1 defeat of Springers United in the Jamaica Women's Premier League (JWPL) on Saturday.

Fraziers Whip were expected to face a stern test from their Montego Bay hosts in their top-of-the-table Group A clash at Wespow Park. It seemed as if Fraziers Whip would be in for a tough afternoon when Donique Wilson fired Springers in front from the penalty spot.

Natoya Atkinson, however, scored a hat-trick, along with a brace from Latoya Duhaney and one from Tajay Stephenson, to secure a comfortable win for the St Catherine-based Fraziers Whip.

"We were expecting a more difficult match, but I thought we navigated our way very well and credit to the ladies.

"Springers went ahead early with a penalty, but we took over the game from there and created a number of opportunities and I thought we wasted those opportunities. We maintained our calm and managed to score six goals," Gilbert said.

Fraziers Whip are now the sole leaders of Group A with six points from two matches. Springers and Baptiste Alliance follow with three each, while Olympic Gardens and Rangers are yet to get a point after one game.

Gilbert added that though there is much work to be done, they are progressing faster than expected

"We are going to get better, as we go along, as well as the other teams, but we started on a good foot in the first game, we got a win against formidable opponents (Olympic), and we had another good win this week and we only expect things to get better from here," he remarked.

In the other group games, at the Annotto Bay Sports Complex, Baptiste Alliance defeated Rangers 3-1 with goals from Kerry-Ann Sterling, Rihana Smith and Jahdel Vassell.

In Group B, Mile Gully had to forfeit their match against Vere, with the latter leading 8-0. Mile Gully started with only eight players and had to take two of those players off because of an injury to their goalkeeper and another player getting an asthma attack.

Mureka Howard had a hat-trick and Tashika Hamilton a brace for Vere.

In another Group B game, Cavalier defeated Real MoBay 9-0 with five goals from Rena Gordon, two from Kersha Thomas and one each from Suen Gregory and Jynelle Graham.

Cavalier and Vere share the lead in the group with six points from two matches. Real MoBay, Royal Lakes and Mile Gully are yet to score a point.
