Campion College coach Odane Walters was full of praise for young forward Kai Myles, who scored the only goal for their first schoolboy football title in 30 years, as they beat St George's College 1-0 in the Colts (under-16) final at Calabar yesterday.

The 14-year-old Myles, who netted seven goals in the just concluded Manning Cup season and 10 in the Colts competition, scored from the penalty spot in the 46th minute for 10-man Campion and Walters was appreciative of his striker's effort.

"He is my best striker. He led from the front and he got us through," Walters commented.

He added that the player's Manning Cup experience played a critical part in their success, and he is looking for great things from him.

"It was a very good experience when we made it to the second round in the Manning Cup. We didn't do so well after that, but the players that came down said they wanted this Colts title and we went out and got it

"Kai Myles the 14-year-old striker is exceptional. He is very good, he said he wanted it and he went and played his heart and got it," Walters said.

Campion dominated the first half but failed to make the breakthrough. Three minutes into the second half, Campion lost Zidain Smith to a red card for an off-the-ball incident.

They, however, took the lead with 10 players when a St George's defender handled the ball inside the penalty box and Myles stepped up to convert the spot kick to put Campion ahead.

Despite all St George's efforts to get back, Campion held out resolutely for their historic win.

In the under-14 final, St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) gave up a 2-0 half-time lead to lose 5-2 to Jamaica College (JC).

D'Mari Gouldbourne and Kelvin Brown put STATHS up at the break, but JC responded in the second half with two goals each from Man-of-the-Match Jamone Lyle and Ajani Campbell. Jaheem Bennett got the other.

JC coach Wayne Palmer also credited his young star.

"Lyle was amazing. Most of the players look to him as a midfield general, but you have to give him credit because he picked up the game and got two beautiful goals," Palmer said.

Orrett Wallace, junior football chairman at ISSA, said it was a very satisfying season from ISSA's standpoint.

Both All-Island finals take place on Thursday at St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), who are also in the two finals.
