Cavalier coach Rudolph Speid is confident they will be able to address their inability to see out games and rise higher in the table before the end of the first round of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL).

In both of their losses, Cavalier conceded added-time goals to lose all three points, and currently are in fifth position in the points standing, with nine points from three wins and two defeats, after five matches.

"The two games we lost were in the 90-plus minute. So, we have a concern in seeing out all of our games properly but we have no doubt that we will fix that problem," Speid declared.

"If we had drawn the last game (Mount Pleasant), we would be second in the table but, instead, we are in fifth. But we are building again, so I am not worried.

"Plus, a lot of the top-performing teams, we have played already, such as Mount Pleasant, Dunbeholden and Arnett. So we think we will end the first round very strong. By the end of the first round, we should be playing much better," he continued.

Cavalier won their second JPL title in 2021 and made it to the semi-finals last year, and Speid expects to be in the thick of the title challenge again this season.

"The aim is to go to the play-off round and we know we will be there. The team will improve and get better before the end of the season, and we definitely will be challenging for the title," he said.

Cavalier have netted nine goals and have seen their defence breached in four of their five matches and, with the club's philosophy of exposing young talent, the Cavalier boss is very satisfied with how his troops have manoeuvred the early stages of the competition.

"We have a lot of teenagers, even some 16-year-olds, and I am really impressed with what they have done so far.

"They have matched up with the strongest pound-for-pound teams in the league and it was only in the 90-plus three minutes that Mount Pleasant scored on us, so we are not worried.

"We will be getting back a few players in January and we will be even better then," he said.
