With the 2022 World Cup complete, Arnett Gardens will be hoping that they can find an early Christmas present by vaulting to the top of the table when they take on Humble Lion in their Jamaica Premier League fixture today at 5 p.m at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Arnett Gardens, who are currently in third place with 10 points, have been inactive like the rest of the league for two weeks because of the World Cup. They went into the break on the back of a 2-1 win over Molynes United on December 5, thanks to strikes from Earl Simpson and Marlon Allen, rebounding from their 1-0 defeat to Montego Bay United the previous week. The Junglists, in their second season under Paul 'Tegat' Davis, have scored eight goals while conceding three in six games in a start to the season that has been strong but has been constantly interrupted by long breaks. Last season Davis was unbeaten against Humble Lion in their two meetings. Both ended in draws.

The Andrew Price-coached Humble Lion are hoping that the break did not come at the wrong time after getting their major scalp of the season so far in their 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Montego Bay United on December 4. It was a victory that was significant in more ways than one considering that Humble Lion played a man down for the entire second half as Afiba Chambers was sent off for a second yellow. The Clarendon-based outfit are hoping for their third win in four games. Humble Lion are also looking for their first win over Arnett in two years. They last defeated the Junglists 3-1 on January 19, 2020.

The second game of the doubleheader will see Tivoli Gardens face league leaders Harbour View at 7:30 p.m. Harbour View are one of the two teams that have yet to be beaten this season, with Nicholas Hamilton and Timar Lewis tied for the Golden Boot with four goals. Tivoli who are in 11th place will be seeking to break a three-game winless run which includes back-to-back defeats to Mount Pleasant Academy and Dunbeholden before the World Cup break.
