Waterhouse clobber H’View 4-0 in JPL

Waterhouse have an uncharacteristic tough start to the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) this season, but they rolled back the years with an emphatic 4-0 win over defending champions Harbour View at Stadium East yesterday.

First-half goals from Ramone and Kenroy Howell gave the Marcel Gayle-coached Waterhouse a 2-0 lead at the break, while Devroy Grey and Shaqueil Bradford added second-half goals to put the game to bed.

"It is just the personalities of the players," said Waterhouse assistant coach Damion Gordon. "We have quality players and they showed up tonight. They wanted to win and it showed in how we passed the ball, how we communicated and organised and so it showed in terms of the result."

Waterhouse's fortunes have fluctuated this season, but the win was no surprise for the coaching staff.

"We took our chances but before the match there were three things we wanted to work on, how we pass out of the back, our decision in the final third and how we control our opponents, and we did just that," said Gordon.

He stated, however, the main aim now is to perform consistently.

"Consistency in the league is very important, so we have to keep working," Gordon said.

Waterhouse started the match better than Harbour View and after 12 minutes, Ramone Howell beat goalkeeper Anthony Bennett with a powerful strike from 30 yards.

Four minutes later Kenroy Howell broke through and slipped the ball under Bennett for Waterhouse's second.

Harbour View, however, came back and had several good chances through Nicholas Hamilton, Timar Lewis and Colorado Murray.

Waterhouse once again started the second half briskly and nine minutes later, Grey held off a defender before slipping the ball past Bennett to make it 3-0.

Bradford broke away and placed the ball past the hapless Bennett to seal the win.

Harbour View created several chances in the game but failed to convert.

"Definitely not our game today," said Harbour View coach Ludlow Bernard. "Waterhouse was the better team on the day. The game is a game of fortunes and earlier we created two and didn't convert and Waterhouse scored on the next chance," he said.

"It was imperative we get one going into the break, or soon after, but that did not happen and if you are committing bodies you are going to be exposed at the back," he pointed.

The win lifts Waterhouse one place into sixth with 13 points, while Harbour View with 15 points, stayed third on goal difference ahead of Humble Lion and Portmore.
