Hamilton confident of copping RJRGLEANER award
Harbour View's striker Nicholas Hamilton is confident of winning the RJRGLEANER People's Choice Award favourite sporting performance of last year, despite recognising that he is pitted against some stellar nominees.
"It's a really good feeling being nominated for such an award. To be among the best athletes in Jamaica is very special," Hamilton said. "I think I have a really good chance of winning this award. This love my family, friends and fans show me is special and they have a lot of people voting for me so I think my chances are good."
Hamilton was nominated for his spectacular goal from outside the penalty area in Jamaica Premier League (JPL) for Harbour View in the play-offs against Waterhouse Football Club.
Hamilton described his season as a success as he also helped Harbour View to win the title. He said these accomplishments have motivated him to work harder during the current season.
"Winning the league and also scoring in both legs of the semi-finals was really good," said the striker.
"Being nominated for this award has boosted my confidence and it's definitely helping me to have better performances on the field for this year, and the reason for that is, I would love to be nominated again for this and more awards in 2023."
Hamilton currently holds the fifth position on the JPL leading goalscorers list, with five goals so far this season.
Other nominees for the RJRGLEANER People's Choice Award for favourite sporting performance last year include Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce who dominated the 100 metres, Shericka Jackson's incredible time to win the 200 metres at the World Championships, Fabian Allen's wonder catch on the boundary for Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League and the Reggae Girls 4-0 defeat of Haiti to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2023.
