Teamwork made the dream work for champs Farm Town
It was a short journey from the Discovery Bay Community Centre to Farm Town in St Ann as they walked away with the National title at the culmination of the Social Development Commission (SDC) National Community 4-in-1 competition on Sunday.
According to one of the team leaders and netball player Noel Ramsey Taylor, teamwork made the dream worked for the Farm Town team who lifted the winners' trophy and a first-place cash prize of $500,000.
Farm Town beat out their seven other parish rivals to claim the title after amassing 32 points, which was three points more than Mandeville United out of Manchester and Hayes from Clarendon, who were both tied for second place with 29 points.
Granville Trendsetters of St. James secured the fourth-place spot after amassing 27 points.
Farm Town had their football, domino and culture piece team to thank for their victory, as all three disciplines combined to amass 30 points out of the 32.
The St Ann-based team won the six-a-side football competition, then finished second in the domino and culture segment and eighth in the netball competition.
For Ramsey Taylor, the win was a fitting reward for the planning and preparation which the team stood by from the beginning.
"From day one when we formed the WhatsApp group and organised ourselves, we ensured that we were on the same page and supported each other, cheering and encouraging each team and that motivated us to win," Taylor said.
It was with that kind of enthusiasm that senior programmes coordinator at SDC Terrence Richards brought the curtains down on what was described as an overwhelmingly successful first year.
"Overall, we met the objectives that we had set out based on the camaraderie that we wanted to build, not only across parishes but even within the same communities as persons across each discipline knew they had to come together and act as a team. We are already getting responses for next year's competition which is expected to be even bigger and better," Richards said.
