Five teams advance to JWPL quarterfinals

Five of the eight quarterfinalists in the Jamaica Women's Premier League (JWPL) were decided at the weekend following the penultimate round of games.
Frasziers Whip continued their ruthless run with a 12-0 win over Baptiste Alliance to top Zone A with maximum 36 points after 12 games.
On Saturday, the Xavier Gilbert-coached team defeated Baptiste Alliance with five goals from national youth player and leading scorer Shaneil Buckley and four from Notoya Atkinson.
Buckley took her tally for the season to 40, while Atkinson moved to 25.
"Now we are in the playoff stage. The games are going to get tougher but we are happy to be there and we will make sure we continue to do what we are doing to ensure we get a hold of the trophy," said Gilbert.
Olympic Gardens secured second spot in the group with 21 points, after a 10-0 win over Rangers.
Stephanie Morgan led Olympic with four goals and she was supported by Carlettia Savizon with two goals.
"Hopefully we get to the final round, because the hope is to get to the final," stated Savizon.
Olympic Gardens are 11 points clear of Springers and Baptiste Alliance in third and fourth, respectively.
However, Rangers, who are at the bottom of the standing with four points, still have a chance of getting through as they have two outstanding games to play along with their final game.
Over in Zone B, Cavalier secured the number one spot with 33 points from 12 games. The Everdean Scarlett-coached team had to work hard for the three points against Vere.
However, in the end Rema Gordon, the team's leading scorer, netted her 29th of the season to break the deadlock in the 81st minute before Shanae Nelson added a second in added time.
Vere hold second place in the group with 18 points, two clear of Mile Gully who drew 1-1 with Royal Lakes.
Mile Gully advanced to the playoffs but Royal Lakes (eight points) need four more points to secure their berth, as Real MoBay (three points) are still in with a shot with two rescheduled games to play.
Deneishs Ellis gave Mile Gully a 10th-minute lead but Nataysha Malcolm salvaged a point with a 50th-minute goal.
The first leg of the quarterfinals are scheduled for April 15 and the second leg for April 29.
