After going four matches without a win, Humble Lion returned to winning ways in their last two games against Tivoli Gardens and Vere United to maintain their playoff spot in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL), and are currently sitting fifth with 36 points.

A big part of their run has been the leadership and consistent high-level performances of veteran right-back Xavian Virgo.

Even though they have several well-experienced players, the 37-year-old former national player told STAR Sports that being a seasoned professional, leadership and constancy have become staple aspects of his game.

"Xavian Virgo will always lead every time I come out to play. I just want to take the team to the next round, so step by step, game by game, my experience will continue to show out there," he said.

"It's a regular routine for me to come out and play well for the team to help them achieve their goals, and I just use my experience to guide the youngsters through these games."

Humble Lion defeated Tivoli Gardens 2-1 with 10 men, then turned back Vere 1-0 in the Clarendon derby last weekend to stay two points clear of Waterhouse in sixth and five ahead of Portmore in seventh.

Virgo insists they could not have gone another game without three points, and getting those two victories were crucial to their playoffs ambitions.

"These were very tough games for us, and I knew I had to stand tall to help them over the line.

"It was very important we got the wins because we were coming off four games without a win, and we are trying to keep the teams behind us where they are.

"So this is what we really want. To stick to the task and do what we need to, to get the three points," he continued.

With five matches remaining in the preliminary stage, the former Boys' Town defender said they just need to maintain their resolve and keep winning.

"We have to get three points every time we come out to play, it doesn't matter who we play, once we get three points each time we play, we will stay in the (playoffs) bunch," he said.
