After a difficult spell in Europe, national midfielder Tyreek Magee will hope to turn the page on his young career in the United States with United Soccer League (USL) championship team, Colorado Switchbacks.

The club made the announcement yesterday, bringing the 23- year-old midfielder to America's second tier, after four years in Belgium with KAS Eupen.

The deal, which is for the 2023 season, is pending league and federation approval. Magee goes to the United States after a four-year spell where he did not have many opportunities with the first team. He has only made five appearances so far this season, all from the bench and seven appearances overall in his time in Belgium since moving from Harbour View in 2019.

Switchbacks head coach Stephen Hogan was not only impressed with his technical abilities but believes that he has a point to prove at this stage in his career.

"Tyreek is a young player who has played at the top level in Belgium. He is coming back to the States to, hopefully, make a statement. His work ethic and ambition for his career got us interested in him. He is a very creative player with great vision and awareness," Hogan told the club website. "I'm excited to see him progress here and contribute to our success."

Magee said that he is looking forward to improving the club's fortunes this season.

"I'm excited to be in Colorado Springs with the Switchbacks this season. I'm excited to use my qualities to help make the team better," Magee said.

Magee has not represented Jamaica since last June when he was a second-half substitute in the 1-1 draw with Suriname in their Concacaf Nations League fixture under the management of then interim head coach Paul Hall. He has not been called up to the team since Heimir Hallgrimsson took charge last September. He has made nine appearances for the Reggae Boyz. Magee will have familiar company in Colorado with national teammates Romario Williams, Devon Williams, Maalique Foster and Deshane Beckford in the team. Magee's club debut could come as early as Friday when Colorado host El Paso Locomotive. Colorado are currently second in the Western Conference with 16 points after eight games.
