BUDAPEST, Hungary

It certainly has been a while since Kevona Davis has made a national team of any kind. Six years in fact.

But she believes that her time is now.

Davis is in the women's 200 metres at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, after a season where she made her first senior team following a strong college campaign.

It is her first national team at any level since 2017 when she won bronze at the World Under-18 Championships in Kenya.

Davis said that she is proud that the work she has put in has rewarded her with the opportunity she has wanted.

"When I saw my name on the list I was jumping and screaming. Calling my mom telling her how happy I am. My mom was so proud of me. To know that I have been working hard and the time has finally come. We work with God and time. This is my time and I am going to do the best I can," Davis said.

Since leaving high school, it hasn't been the smoothest transition to the University Of Texas where she had to adjust to the rigours of the college system. While it has been three years of hard work, Davis says that she is in the right form and frame of mind to make her mark.

"It takes time for a person to adjust and a person to get used to their environment and the people that are around them. So I have taken three years to adjust and get used to the programme and my coaches and everybody that is around me," Davis said. "And now I am right on track to accomplish all the goals that I have set out for myself."

Those goals she said include a personal best performance as well as a healthy end to what has been a rewarding season.
