England-born Anderson seeks to add talent to Boyz
New English recruit Karoy Anderson, having received his maiden call-up, is looking to add depth to the Reggae Boyz, who he opines will benefit from his presence, preferred position in the middle of the park and style of play.
The 19-year-old Anderson plays for Charlton Athletic in England's League One competition and adds that playing alongside teammate Michael Hector was a motivational factor in his football journey.
"I'm a busy player. I like going forward and defending, so I try to do everything. It's good because I knew he (Hector) played for Jamaica and it was something that I was looking to do, so being able to play with him, with his experience in club football, is good as he's a good person to look up to," Anderson shared.
Anderson was happy to be drafted into coach Heimir Hallgrimsson's squad for their Nations League Group B matches against Grenada and Haiti. Jamaica defeated Grenada 4-1 last night and will battle Haiti on Sunday.
According to Anderson, who also spent time at Aldershot Town Football Club, who competes in England's fifth-tier league system, the call-up was a shocker.
"It's something that I can't describe, and it's something that I always wanted to do, and I'm glad that I'm here. At first, I couldn't really believe it. I knew I was in the provisional squad, but when I got the news, I was shocked. I was looking at it for a long time, then I called my mom, and she started crying, so it was good," Anderson stated.
He revealed that his eligibility for selection to the Reggae Boyz was from his mother and grandmother, who are from Jamaica. He stated that he grew up in England with the Jamaican culture around him while being influenced by the food and music of the island.
"My mom was born in Clarendon, and my grandmother from my dad's side was born in Trelawny. Most definitely, the food, the music, everything," he added.
