Guthrie aims for same goal with Mount Pleasant
Former Arnett Gardens' captain Romeo Guthrie is stepping out in new colours this season.
Now under the guidance of Theodore Whitmore at Jamaica Premier League (JPL) champions, Mount Pleasant Football Academy, Guthrie says his goal is the same - to win the league.
"Well, they reached out to me, and from there, a decision was made," the midfielder said. "The main goal I want to achieve is to win the championship with the team again, and, hopefully, something can happen for me."
He guided Arnett to a semi-final spot in the last JPL season, where they lost to Mount Pleasant 5-3 on aggregate. The 'Junglists' would eventually claim third place after edging Harbour View 1-0 in extra time.
At a new place and under new guidance, Guthrie said he hopes to improve on last season.
"It's been great so far. Excellent facility and great player and coaches," he said. "I mean, change of environment has been great for me personally, mentally and physically."
Still, he misses home some time after moving from West Kingston to Drax Hall, St Ann.
"Well, it is (difficult to be away from home), but you know this is my job, so I have less time to think about home, but it can be challenging at times," he said.
Defending champions Mount Pleasant are off to a great start to the season as they have won all of their first three matches, with their last victory being 3-1 over Molynes at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in Arnett Gardens on Sunday.
