Arnett capitalise on Dunbeholden’s missed chances
Dunbeholden failed to convert numerous opportunities throughout their 90-minute encounter against Arnett Gardens and went down 1-0 in their Jamaica Premier League encounter at Stadium East yesterday.
Fabian Reid converted the match winner in the 66th minute of both teams' first match of the second round.
Arnett's coach, despite the win, believes their task was difficult against a tough Dunbeholden, especially in the first half.
"I must credit Dunbeholden as we couldn't manage them, especially in the first half. I was happy we got to the half-time break, as they really put us to the sword, and we were fortunate to have gone in 0- 0 at halftime.
"However, I thought we managed differently in the second half, and it was a game where we managed to score our opportunity," Gilbert stated.
Dunbeholden started sprightlier, creating the first meaningful chance as early as the 5th minute, with Sadeeki Burton's free kick going inches wide of the goal. Dunbeholden's Nicholas Nelson, in the 13th minute, was close to scoring, as his left-footed shot went just wide of the mark after tussling with defender Gerald Neil.
Again, Dunbeholden were close to scoring in the 25th minute through a powerful left-footed strike from the boots of Nelson, who was denied by a magnificent save from Arnett Gardens' custodian Asher Hutchinson.
The second half's storyline was similar, starting with Dunbeholden's substitute, Brian Burkett's header going just above the bar from point-blank range, while Shakeen Powell's 63rd-minute effort was denied by another top-class save by goalkeeper Hutchinson.
The plethora of missed chances haunted Dunbeholden as the dangerous Reid pounced on a mishandled delivery from goalkeeper Damian Hyatt to slot home from close range.
Dunbeholden's coach, Lenworth Hyde, believes that despite the loss, there are positives for Dunbeholden to take from their performance.
"I loved how the team played, as for most of the game we passed the ball well and created numerous chances that we should have put away, but when you don't score, goals score on you. We are still in the top six, and we must try and maintain that position," Hyde stated.
In the day's other match at the same venue, Molynes United blanked Vere United 2-0.
