Track and field fans highly anticipate the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls's Athletics Championships (Champs) clash of the top Class Four girls in the sprints, as based on results so far, it has been the most talented young athletes assembled in the age group.

Ferncourt High School's Rihanna Scott threw down the gauntlet earlier in the season, with times of 12.19 seconds in the 100 metres and 25.68 seconds over the 200 metres, to be the No. 1 athlete in both events.

Scott, along with St. Jago High's Chelsean Samuels, are two of the top three from last year's outstanding trio who battled it out in the under-12 girls' 100 and 200 metres at the Sagicor/JTA Primary All-Island Championships, and who have graced the track already this season. Edwin Allen High School's Danielle Clarke is yet to compete.

With the absence of Clarke, her teammate, Tashana Godfrey, has made her presence felt and is No. 2 behind Scott in both the 100 and 200 metres with times of 12.42 seconds and 25.80 seconds.

The multi-talented Godfrey is also the fourth-ranked in the 70 metres hurdles with a personal best of 10.96 seconds, done at the Youngster Goldsmith Classics. She was also a standout at last year's Sagicor meet, where she won the under-15 girls' 100 metres and was second in the 200 metres, representing Westmoreland.

Godfrey prefers the 100 and 70 metres hurdles and is anxious to meet Scott.

"I really want to meet Rihanna in the 100 and 200 metres, as I am very confident I can beat her. My coach has been preparing us very well and motivating us, and has told us that we are the best; and when we go on the track, we are ready to deliver for him," stated Godfrey.

"I know I am good in all three events, but I love the 100 and the 70 metres hurdles more. I definitely want to go to Champs and win both events, and possibly in record times, and help Edwin Allen to win back the title from Hydel," said the former Unity Primary top athlete.

According to coach Michael Dyke, Godfrey will likely compete in the 100 metres and 70 metres hurdles at Champs, as the finals of the 200 metres and the 70 metres hurdles are slated to be contested on the same day.

Champs will take place at the National Stadium. It begins on March 19 and ends on March 23.
