Hurdler Clarke continues to shine in 400m

World Championships 400 metres hurdles finalist Roshawn Clarke of Swept Track Club continued preparing with another good run in the men's 400 metres at the Gibson/McCook Relays Saturday.

Clarke, who surprised World Championships winner Antonio Watson in his first outing at the Camperdown Classics earlier, continued his winning ways after clocking 46.05 seconds to equal his previous best in that outing.

World Championships representative Malik James King of Titans Track Club finished strongly for second, in a season-best of 46.28 seconds, as Wendell Miller of The Bahamas ended third in 47.11 seconds.

Sade Williams of Barbados, the back-to-back World Championships women's 400 metres bronze medallist over the one-lap event, was an easy winner in the women's 400 metres in her season debut.

Competing for MVP Track Club, Williams romped to victory in 51.93 seconds. The G.C Foster College pair of Annecia Richards, with 55.65 seconds and Vanessa Ward, with 55.73, ended second and third, respectively.

There was a meet record in the field, as in an exciting duel in the men's high jump between Raymond Richards of the University of Technology and Christoff Bryan of MVP, cleared a record 2.25 metres, with Richards getting the win on countback. The previous record holder, Lushane Wilson of GC Foster College, finished third with 2.20 metres.

National long jump women's champion Tissanna Hickling produced a superb performance to warm up for this weekend's World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

Competing for Ricketts Performance Centre, Hickling won the women's long jump with a distance of 6.32 metres in 1.1 metres per second negative wind. Richelle Stanley of St Elizabeth Technical High School's 5.96 metres and Deijanae Bruce of Edwin Allen's 5.85 were second and third, respectively.

It was a one-two finish for Edwin Allen High in the women's high jump as Rasheda Samuels won with a height of 1.75 metres. Teammate Asia McKay took second with 1.70 metres, while Remona Hylton of Swept Track Club was third with 1.65 metres.

Guyana's Emmanuel Archibald, representing Swept Track Club, was the winner of the men's long jump with a distance of 7.66 metres, getting the better of SprinTec's Shawn D Thompson with 7.44m and Legacy Track Club's Aubrey Allen with 7.34m.
