Rasheed Grant yearns for more success after being one of the standout athletes for St Mary and the eastern Jamaica region last year at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships (Champs).

Competing in the Class Three boys' 800 metres final, Grant just missed out on a medal after finishing fourth in 2:06.03 minutes.

"I am not only aiming to be in the final, but I am looking forward to getting a medal for my team," said Grant, after winning the event at the recent Eastern Athletics Championships, competing in his first year of Class Two.

Grant copped the gold medal and broke the record, stopping the clock at 1:59.73 minutes. This has inspired him.

"I am pleased with my win, and getting the record is a bonus knowing where I have been coming from this season because of a knee injury, which affected my preparation," he said.

Grant is confident he can do something special at Champs once he remains healthy and injury-free.

"I know it is my first year in the class, but I am not worried about this, as I am just focusing on myself as I do not look at what other athletes are doing," he stated.

According to Grant, once he carries out his coach's instructions, his goal will be achieved.

"I believe in my coach, and once I follow his instructions and execute well, I am confident that I will not only be in the final but can also be amongst the medals," he said.
