KC set to outscore JC, Calabar

Kingston College (KC) have peaked when it matters most and are favourites to win their 35th title at the March 19-23 Championships ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships (Champs) at the National Stadium.

The defending champions stepped up their performances over the past month and are expected to turn back the challenges of former champions Jamaica College (JC) and Calabar, who were second and third, respectively, last year.

Calabar will outscore their rivals in Class Two, but KC are expected to dominate in all the other areas except Class Three, where St. Jago will dominate.

JC and KC will be in a tit-for-tat in Classes Three and One, and the Open events, but Class Two will make the difference for KC, as they are set to outscore JC 79-49, which will pave their way for their victory and the retention of the Mortimer Geddes Trophy.

There will be no finals on Tuesday's opening day, but eight on Wednesday, when KC are expected to take pole position. They will tally 67 points here to take a 23-point lead over JC on 44. Calabar 37, St. Jago 33 and Excelsior 18.

Nothing will change much after Thursday's finals. KC will add 39 points to go into Friday's fourth and penultimate day of competition on 106 points. Calabar with 37 points will jump into second with 74 points, while JC with 22, will drop to third on 66 points, as St Jago will remain fourth on 55 points and Excelsior fifth on 33.

In the next two days, KC will remain in the lead and at the end of the Championships they should end on 300 points, 40 more than JC, as Calabar will hold on to third with 232 points, and St Jago fourth on 154, to be this year's biggest movers in points at Champs.
