Jackson, Parchment head track and field team to Paris
WORLD 200 metres champion Shericka Jackson and defending men's 110 metres hurdles champion Hansle Parchment head Jamaica's track and field team named yesterday by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) to represent the island at this month's Paris Olympics. Sixty athletes will represent Jamaica in several events on the track and in the field with Jackson, the double sprint champion at the recent JAAA/Puma National Junior and Senior Championships, and men's national 100 metres winner Kishane Thompson strongly tipped to win gold in Paris. Outstanding triple jumper Jaydon Hibbert is also expected to win a medal in Paris.
Parchment is the only athlete named who won an individual gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Jackson won bronze in the women's 100m and gold in the 4x100m. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce who won silver in the 100m and gold as a member of the sprint relay team will also be in Paris. Elaine Thompson-Herah who captured the sprint double in Tokyo is injured.
Jackson is among 32 female athletes named by the JAAA while Parchment leads the 28 males. The Paris Olympic Games starts on July 26 and ends on August 11. The track and field competition starts on August 1 and ends on August 11.
