Fireworks expected in Glenmuir, Ocho Rios battle

October 29, 2024

High-flying Ocho Rios and Glenmuir high schools are set for a mouthwatering showdown in their ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup football competition's round-of-16 match at Glenmuir High School this afternoon.

The contest numbers among four to be contested today in groups One and Three.

In Group One, Garvey Maceo are at home to Kemps Hill at Foga Road High School, while St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) will host Alphansus Davis High. In Group Three, Glenmuir High will meet Ocho Rios High at Glenmuir, while Dinthill Technical will also be at home to Happy Grove High.

Both Glenmuir and Ocho Rio registered big wins in their opening round-of-16 matches on Saturday and have three points. Ocho Rios, however, are group leaders with their 5-0 away win at Carder Park over Happy Grove. Glenmuir's 4-0 win over Dinthill at home has placed them in second.

After suffering two losses in their final two games in the preliminary round, Glenmuir have been dominant since, and are undefeated in four games in a row. In the round of 32, they toppled defending champions Clarendon College 2-0 at home and Titchfield High by an identical score at Carder, before beating Paul Bogle High 3-0 at home.

They continued their rich vein of form and their 4-0 win over Dinthill Technical saw them maintain a clean sheet in their last four matches, in which they have pumped in 11 goals.

The Andrew Peart-coached team will face an Ocho Rios team which has not lost a game all season, and this could be an acid test for them, as they look to make full use of home advantage.

Their main threat is former Denbigh High and national under-17, under-18 and under-20 player, Dunsting Cohen, who has been in hot form for Glenmuir, scoring in their last four games, including all four on Saturday.

Playing away on Saturday, Ocho Rios put the brakes on a Happy Grove team coming off three consecutive wins in their previous matches and this will definitely is a morale booster for the St Ann team. An epic contest is expected.

Ocho Rios' top player is Keneil Brown, who is coming off a hat-trick against Happy Grove. Keanu Reid is the team's other main striker.

Playing at home, Dinthill, who held Glenmuir to a goalless score at half-time before conceding four second half goals will be hoping to redeem themselves against Happy Grove.

In Group One action, leaders Kemps Hill, who smashed Alphansus Davis 5-0 in their opening match, will be away to Garvey Maceo, who drew 1-1 with STETHS, in a Clarendon derby. STETHS will be hoping for a big win over Alphansus Davis in their home encounter, to boost their chance of advancing.
