Fagan’s double slows Racing
Paced by a double strike in the first half by veteran Andre Fagan, Harbour View Football Club overpowered newcomers Racing United Football Club of Portmore 3-1 in the opening match of a Jamaica Premier League doubleheader at Stadium East yesterday.
Rohan Brown, with a second-half stoppage-time penalty, scored the other goal for the Stars of the East.
Racing United FC got on the scoresheet courtesy of an own goal by Casseam Priestley at the 71st minute.
Uncertainty in the Racing United backline led to Harbour View's opener in the second minute as Fagan managed to lob custodian Carlyle Holmes.
Fagan would give his team a 2-0 lead at the 19th minute, when he found space in the box and easily converted.
As Harbour View continued their dominance, Romario Gibbs was presented with a glorious chance to get on the scoresheet but his shot on goal was stopped by Holmes.
Racing United were given a lifeline when Priestley, in a bid to clear his lines, managed only to direct the ball inside his goal.
With Racing United pressing for an equaliser, Brown put the game to bed as he converted a penalty, giving his team their third win of the season.
Jason Henry, head coach of Harbour View, was pleased with his team's scoring.
"Once you have the ball your opponents can't hurt you," Henry noted of their possession game.
"We've been creating a lot of chances from the start of the season and it's pleasing to see that we could score three goals and get the three points," he stated.
Donovan Lofters, assistant coach of Racing United, explained that errors in communication cost his team.
"In the first half we were a bit disorganised. We weren't communicating and we were too emotional. While the coaching staff calmed the players at halftime we went in search of the equaliser but sadly another error cost us," Lofters said.
