Portmore United players celebrate scoring against Cavalier during their Jamaica Premier League football match at Ferdi Neita Park yesterday. The game ended 1-1.

Mount Pleasant registered their sixth successive victory in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) on Sunday, after a comprehensive 3-0 win over Waterhouse FC at Drewsland Mini Stadium, to end the year atop the points standings.

Goals from Shaquile Bradford (fourth minute), Kimoni Bailey (16th) and Raheem Edwards (62nd), saw the visitors wallop the hosts.

Winning coach Theodore Whitmore noted his players know what is at stake and have managed themselves well over the festive period.

"It is interesting in how you keep these players in line (over the holiday period). But they know the objective and they know the task at hand. So we have continued working. There is no holiday for footballers," said the former national midfielder.

He added that the win and the performance was dedicated to the fans for their loyal support over the years.

"It is great to finish on top of the league for this year. We look forward to the new year with continued support from the management, the staff and the fans who have been loyal supporters. So this game is dedicated to them for a Happy New Year," Whitmore said.

"To come here against a Waterhouse team, one of the top six teams, and give such a performance with three goals and we kept a clean sheet, it is a plus for us."

His counterpart Marcel Gayle said they started sluggish and never improved.

"Today (Sunday) we were not brave in some of the areas we need to be brave in. We were a bit slow out of the blocks from the start," Gayle said.

"We made a lot of changes in the squad and we took a while to settle down but our decisions in the final third could have been better," he commented.

Mount Pleasant (34 points) moved three points clear at the top of the table over Montego Bay United, who defeated Harbour View 1-0 on Brian Brown's 85th minute goal.

Waterhouse remain in fifth with 26 points.

However, Arnett Gardens FC slipped one place down the order to third, on the same 31 points as MoBay United but an inferior goal difference, after Levaughn Williams' 81st minute equaliser for Chapelton Maroons cancelled out Marlon Allen's sixth-minute strike in the feature match at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Cavalier stayed fourth on 27 points after playing to a 1-1 draw with Portmore United, who remain in sixth on 23 points.

Geo Headley gave Portmore the lead after 22 minutes, but Christopher Ainsworth ensured a share of the points with a 56th minute goal.

In the opening game at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, Tivoli Gardens FC, with a brace from Anthony Nelson (39th, 71st) and one each from Kavan Wilson (28th), Trevaune McKain (29th) and Rodico Wellington (82nd) crushed Humble Lion 5-1.

Afiba Chambers scored Humble Lion's consolation in the 69th minute.

Tivoli sit in seventh place on 19 points, three more than Chapelton in eighth and four ahead of Dunbeholden and Racing, who battled to a 2-2 draw in their Portmore derby at Dunbeholden.

Ronaldo Biggs (fifth) and Damorney Hutchinson (65th) put underdogs Racing United 2-0 up. But late goals from Dwight Merrick (79th) and Nakeel Wright (84th) salvaged a point for the home team.

In the result of the round, Molynes slammed Vere Phoenix 5-0 with a hat-trick from Devone Davis (32nd, 48th, 62nd) and one goal each from Jason Wright (74th) and Marlon Cunningham (83rd).

The win lifted Molynes to 13 points and out of the relegation zone, into 11th, above Vere Phoenix in 12th on goal difference.

Harbour View's defeat saw them slipping into the relegation zone with 12 points, while Humble Lion are at the bottom of the table on 10 points.
