Bryan secures draw for Waterhouse in dramatic finish
Javane Bryan came off the bench to score a dramatic late equaliser (90+6 minutes) and earn Waterhouse FC a point in a 2-2 draw against Cavalier Soccer Club in their Jamaica Premier League football match at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex last night.
With time running out and Waterhouse trailing 1-2, coach Marcel Gayle summoned Bryan who found himself in the right place after the ball had pin-balled off two Cavalier defenders and found its way before Bryan facing the goal. The tall, muscular striker drove the ball powerfully along the ground from just inside the box to score his fourth goal of the season.
Cavalier led the contest twice on a double from striker Jalmaro Calvin, who first gave his team the lead at the 21st minute, and then at the 54th, taking his tally to 10 goals for the season.
Andre Fletcher had scored Waterhouse FC's first goal, tying the game at the 47th minute.
Cavalier stayed fourth as they inched up to 28 points, while Waterhouse stayed fifth, moving to 27.
Mount Pleasant Football Academy lead the standings on 37 points, followed by Montego Bay United and Arnett Gardens FC, who are tied on 34 points. However, MoBay United are second by virtue of a superior goal difference.
The Cavalier-Waterhouse match was the feature of a doubleheader in the Jungle.
WINLESS RUN
In the opening match, Portmore United FC failed to break their six-match winless run, drawing 1-1 with Tivoli Gardens FC.
Romeo Guthrie gave Portmore United an eighth-minute lead. However, Steve Clarke ensured a share of the spoils with a 55th-minute header.
Since Portmore's defeat to Arnett Gardens seven games ago, the St Catherine club has not tasted victory.
"We create some chances but just didn't capitalise on them, especially in the first half, we should have finished the game from there," Portmore's head coach Rodolph Austin said.
Tivoli Gardens' head coach Jerome Waite was disappointed they could not close the gap on sixth-place Portmore, who have 24 points. Tivoli stayed seventh on 20 points.
"It wasn't what I expected based on the end result," he said. "Furthermore, the first half was basically Portmore, but it was a different ball game in the second half when we introduced Steve Clarke and Shaquille Jones."
