Vere Technical on fire at Douglas Forrest meet
Led by the outstanding middle-distance athlete Ashara Frater, Vere Technical notched several wins at Saturday's Douglas Forrest Invitational track and field meet at the National Stadium.
Frater was an impressive winner in the girl's Class One 1500 metres, posting four minutes, 42.90 seconds, getting the better of Wolmer's Girls' Jeneail Henry (4:50.74) and Jennifer Byass of Camperdown High, who placed third in 5:02.47.
Josene Williams, Xiah Tobias, Ashalee Montigue and Driana Forrester also picked up wins for the Clarendon team in their respective events.
Williams clocked 24.48 to capture the Class Two girl's 200m, Tobias was best in Class Three in 25.26, while in Class Four, Montique clocked 26.25 for the win. Forrester won the Class Three 800m, posting 2:28.01.
Tiana Rhooms of St Mary High spoiled a Vere sweep in the half-lap event, winning in Class One with 24.70. Vere's Brianna Wilson was second in 24.73, with Excelsior's Shakiri Rhoden third in 25.03.
Kingston College's Julius Itubo won the Class Three boys' 1500 metres in 4:18.01. Itubo's teammate, Christopher Anderson, was a winner in the Class Two 800m, stopping the clock at 2:01.20 to get the better of Jamaica College's Evans Tetteh (2:02.20).
Tetteh returned to win the 1500 metres in a good 4:09.85 minutes.
Wolmer's Boys' had a quinela in the Class Three 800m with Alfario Campbell winning in 2:09.59 minutes ahead of teammate Nathaniel Ivy (2:12.84). Malik Thompson of Camperdown placed third in 2:13.45.
Excelsior High's Demarco Bennett won the boys' Class One 400m hurdles in 53.06 ahead of teammates Daniel Wright, 53.77 and Kishawn Hoffman, 54.88.
Oneil Brown of Munro College captured the Class Two 400m hurdles in 56.08 seconds, with Ruheim McIntosh of KC second in 56.27.
