Excelsior High set for good run at Sprint Fest 100
The Excelsior High School sprint duo Malike Wright and Riquelme Reid will headline the charge in the big race, the Class One boys' 100 metres, at Sprint Fest 100 at G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Sport today. The meet starts at 2 p.m.
Wright, who has a best of 10.52 seconds and Reid, 10.54, will be gunning to send a strong message as they look to improve ahead of what is expected to be a competitive season.
First-year Class One athlete, the promising Johan Romaldo Smythe of Trelawny's Muschett High School, will be hoping to lay down his credentials among the big boys, following his 200m run at Sprint Fest 200, which was held at the Ashenheim Stadium, Jamaica College (JC), recently. At that meet, Smythe clocked 21.59 to win his heat, and finished fifth overall.
The likes of St Catherine High's Patrick McKenzie and Tyrece Foreman, along with Antwone Bygrave of St George's College, are expected to make their presence felt in the event.
In Class Two, St Jago's Ray J Reece, along with Kingston College's (JC) Joshua Spence and Michael Graham of Excelsior High, is among the leading contenders.
In Class Three, the KC duo of Kesmaric Edwards and Daniel Buchanan, along with Amonii Ryan Walters of Excelsior High, should fight it out for the top placing.
Among the girls, World under-20 200 metres bronze medallist, Shanoya Douglas of Muschett High, will be hoping to continue her excellent start to the season.
Douglas, who was an easy winner in the Sprint Fest 200 metres with an impressive 23.56 seconds, will contest the Class Two 100 metres.
Douglas, who was very disappointed with her time after clocking 11.56 seconds to win the 100 metres at the Purewater R. Danny Williams meet, also at JC, will be hoping to go much faster today.
The Class Four girls will be the first on track, with the Class One boys scheduled to close the show.
