Dunbeholden look to continue revival in JPL
Dunbeholden Football Club will look to continue their revival under coach Harold Thomas, when they face Molynes United in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex today at 3 p.m.
The team had a slow start under Thomas, with just one win in his first three games. However, since then they have gone on a four-match unbeaten run, with three wins.
Although they have pulled away from the relegation zone and have made up ground on eighth-place Tivoli and seventh-place Racing United, Thomas said they are not getting excited as all the teams are precariously placed and that it is important they continue to pick up three points in each game.
"Three points is really the goal. When you get three points in this league, it is a bonanza. So it is very important to us to get three points," he said.
"We take it one game at a time. We don't want to get too ahead of ourselves and start thinking about that (top six). So we are just focused on one game at a time," he added.
Dunbeholden face a Molynes team that is one place below them in 10th and three points adrift on 23 points, and Thomas anticipates another tricky game, especially with teams now desperate for points.
"Any and every team in this league is a tricky opponent. So many factors go into these games that determine the results. We have tried to prepare as best as we can and I am sure all the other teams have tried to do the same. So let us see what happens."
Although the team is on a good run, Thomas said they are far from the finished article but he praised the players for their efforts so far.
"I am not totally pleased but it (the team) is much better than when we started. We still have a long way to go but the players have tremendous potential and I hope they continue to deliver because they have it in them.
"It is a work in progress. So there is still a lot of work to be done and a lot more effort to come from the players. But they have responded well and I hope they continue to do that," he said.
