No final will be contested on today's opening day of the GraceKennedy ISSA Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

However, on tomorrow's second day of competition, there will be 16 finals -- 13 on the track and three in the field.

Track finals - 1500m and 100m for both boys and girls across their respective classes.

Field event finals - long jump Class One boys, high jump Class Three boys and discus Class One girls.

Following these finals, defending champions Edwin Allen are expected to establish a strong lead among the girls. The Michael Dyke-coached team is projected to score 68 points, 25 more than Holmwood, who are predicted to be second with 43 points. Rounding out the top five are Vere Technical, 26, Hydel, 23 and St Jago on 17.

In the boys' standings, there could be a lead change each day as Kingston College (KC), Jamaica College (JC), and Calabar High School (CHS) battle for the top spot. Calabar are expected to take an early, but narrow lead, projected at 47 points, just one ahead of defending champions KC (46), with JC close behind on 41. The top five should be completed by St Jago, 27 and Wolmer's, 26.
