Pooran powers Super Giants to first win
HYDERABAD, India:
Nicholas Pooran continued his impressive start in this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) with another half-century to lead Lucknow Super Giants to a comfortable five-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday.
Pooran scored his second half-century in as many matches, as the Super Giants easily overhauled Hyderabad's total of 190 for nine, finishing on 193 for five off 16.1 overs.
After electing to field, the Super Giants contained the home side, thanks to a four-wicket haul from medium pacer Shardul Thakur.
Opener Travis Head top-scored with 47 off 38 balls, Aniket Verma blasted 36 from 13 balls, while Nitish Kumar Reddy made 32 for Hyderabad.
Player of the Match Thakur ended with 4-34 from his four overs.
Batting at number three, Pooran then clobbered 70 from just 26 balls, decorated with six sixes and six fours, while opener Mitchell Marsh made 52 from 31 balls to propel their team to victory with 23 balls remaining.
They shared a 116-run partnership for the second wicket in seven overs to completely tilt the balance in the Super Giants' favour.
Pat Cummins was Hyderabad's best bowler with 2-29 from his three overs. - CMC
