Is cremation wrong?

Dear Pastor,

Many people are talking about the lack of space for burial and that Jamaicans should support cremation. I would like your views about cremation.

Dear R.L.,

In some societies, the matter of cremation is not an issue at all, while in others it can be a big issue. Some Christians insist that it is wrong to cremate a body.

But I will have to deal with this at a later date.

Suffice it to say here that cremation is much cheaper than burial. When a person is alive, he/she should make it known to their children or those who would be responsible for taking care of the funeral what is to be done with their body.

You may wish to be cremated and a funeral service be held. But I say to you, there are some religious people who are against cremation, and I will address that at another time.
