I want to return to Jamaica

June 10, 2019

Dear Pastor,

I am a regular listener of your programme but I live in the UK. I was born in Kingston, Jamaica. I came to England when I was 13 years old.

I am now 68 years old with three adult children. I am a born-again Christian. I suffered a stroke while in my 40s. I am not too bad now.

I would like to return to Jamaica to live, but I would like some help in finding a good place to live. I am willing to rent a room.

I am aware that I cannot return to Jamaica without having an address to go to, so I would be extremely grateful for the help to find a good place and good people to help me.

I used to visit Jamaica in the past when my mother was alive, but my sister sold the family home and kept the money, so I have no other place to go. I really need the help. Thank you very much, and may the Good Lord bless you.

A.R.

Dear A.R.,

I understand your dilemma. I am glad that you listen to the ' Dear Pastor' show in the UK. And I am also pleased to hear that you are a born-again Christian. I hope that your children have been giving you moral support.

You have been away from the land of your birth for a long time, but the desire to return to your homeland is very much on your mind. If you have not yet discussed this matter with your children, I would suggest that you do so very soon.

I do respect what you have said concerning wanting to rent a room somewhere in Jamaica. But I do believe that you need more than just a room.

Please don't misunderstand me; I gather that you do not wish to be extravagant. But I believe that you would need more space.

You said you used to visit Jamaica when your mother was alive. You have given the name of the street which I would not publish. And I do so out of great caution, because you have alleged that your sister sold the home and kept the money.

I will be very happy to communicate with you if you give me more information about yourself and how much you can afford to spend per month, and whether you are, indeed, in a position to pay rent.

You are a Jamaican and you are only 68 years old, so perhaps someone who is your relative may still be alive in Jamaica. My prayers are with you, so let me hear from you again.
