I want a university education

May 27, 2020

Dear Pastor,

I am 23 years old and I want to obtain a degree. I have been down for a long time now but Jesus says it's time for me to get up. I have called family members abroad to help me, but no one is willing to help. I had done something bad by saying that they are not my family because my aunt was talking down on my siblings. But I realised that I was wrong for saying that. I prayed about it. I have called and sent messages apologising for what I said but it is not working.

Everyone deserves a second chance to right the wrong. Please, Pastor, I am asking for some advice and help in generating some funds so that I can start college in September. The field I want to pursue is social work and the school that I am interested in attending is the Jamaica Theological Seminary. They offer a four-year programme and I would attain a bachelor's degree in social work. They told me that the fee to enrol is $169,587.36 per semester, and $19,861.57 for the axillary fee - which is paid once each year.

I don't know what I should do, but I try going online to ask for help, but no assistance still. For more information, please feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Dear S,

You are an ambitious young lady and I am happy to know that you would like to pursue a degree in social work. It is a very good field and Jamaica needs many social workers. You would be making a good contribution to society.

I wonder what you said to your aunt that has caused her to be very angry with you. You say that your aunt was talking down to your siblings and you didn't like that so you made a remark. And you have apologised for it. But your aunt still holds that against you.

I could be wrong, but I believe that you were rude to your aunt. You should always remember that you are an adult and relatives are not under any obligation to send you to college or to assist you in any way. If they assist you, they are doing it from the kindness of their heart. So, don't be upset with relatives if they don't assist you to further your education.

What you probably should do is to apply for a student loan and try and get a part-time job to pay your other bills. You are going to have to work very hard to succeed. Success will not come easily, but as I said before, you are an ambitious young lady. And I believe with God's help, your goals would be realised. And if anyone is willing to assist you, I will contact you.
