Husband doesn’t want to move back to Jamaica

May 12, 2021

Dear Pastor,

Good day to you and your staff. I am a 60-year-old woman. I lived abroad for more than 40 years and I am married. I bought a home in Jamaica and I am planning to return to the island.

For a long time, that was the plan that my husband and I had to spend the rest of our lives in Jamaica. My husband is four years older than I am and now he has changed his mind about going back to Jamaica. We have three children together and my husband has two outside children. My husband told me he has changed his mind. The children told us that whatever we decide to do they will support us. I am tired of the cold. My husband is using the high rate of crime in Jamaica as his reason for not wanting to come home. Pastor, I am planning to leave him. I am not staying in America. I have my pension and my social security to live on. He said he would come and visit me in Jamaica, but I don't want that. I want him with me. How do you see it?

L.

Dear L.,

If your husband insists that he does not want to leave and live in Jamaica, both of you should compromise. I suggest that you live in Jamaica for six months and live in America for six months. Come to Jamaica and escape the cold when it is winter, and live in America during the summer time. But do not allow your marriage to break up over this matter.
