Love how my boyfriend protects the yard

December 15, 2021

Dear Pastor,

I used to live abroad but I am now in Jamaica. People think that I am wealthy so they are always begging. When I tell them that I do not have any money, they call me mean.

They are always knocking on my gate. Sometimes I have to hide. When I returned to Jamaica, I was not interested in getting a man but I had to change. But it was like I was a target. People were stealing from me all the time. As soon as I left my house to go on the road, they were on my property. Now that I have a man, they don't harass me a whole lot. All this man has to do is to put on his short pants and sit on the verandah, or sometimes walk through the gate and people will pass by and pay him respect.

I was married but my husband died. I don't intend to marry again. This man that I have here helps me a lot. Many people don't know that we are not married. I am in my 60s and he is 70 years old. What do you have to say about my situation?

B.D.

Dear B.D.,

I would love to tell you that I hope that one day this relationship would be so strong that you would want to marry this man. Right now both of you have got together out of convenience. This man is your protector. You were a target for criminals. Now, they don't mess with you because they see this man. It is only a very comfortable man who lives at home and dresses in shorts and sits on the verandah. He is a real 'man a yard'. So I hope that your love for each other will grow and I hope that both of you will plan to get married and invite me to your wedding.
