Want to marry my new lover
Dear Pastor,
I am a regular reader of your column. I am 60 years old and I lost my husband 10 years ago. I have tried to keep my body under subjection. So, I did not get involved with any man. But, three years ago, one of my friends who I went to high school with died and her widower has been after me. He said that he is tormented. Every time he sees me, it looks as if he wants to be all over me. I must tell you the truth, everybody tells me that I look good, so this man is not lying. The more he talks to me is the more I wonder whether I should give him a try.
I have four children and all of them told me that I should get married again because I am living alone and I need the company. I had two grandchildren with me, but now they are gone. I have to confess that one Sunday when the man was here visiting me, he held on to me and I pulled away. I don't know what he did, but I eventually found myself in his arms and from his arms into my bedroom. After we made love, I cursed him and told him that he had it all planned. He said he did not have anything planned, but that is how love goes.
He is not a member of the church I attend and I wanted somebody from my church. But that is not going to be because I am getting to love this man more and more. He is not willing to give me up. I am a Sunday worshipper, but he goes to a Saturday church. He told his pastor about me and his pastor says that he can't marry us unless I join his church. So, I am asking you now, what should I do? I do not want to leave my church. So, please give me your advice.
F.G.
Dear F.G.,
I am sorry to hear that your first husband passed away. But it seems to me that you have fallen in love again and you are quite prepared to get married to this man. I am not surprised that this new man's pastor wants you to join his church before he officiates at your wedding. I am not going to say whether that is a correct position he has taken. But if you want to continue to attend your church and the man is willing to marry you and will not insist that you attend his church, I will be willing to officiate at your wedding. You may give me a call at 876-877-1009 or 876-929-1667 and set an appointment to see me.
Pastor
